Limitless Play – An Exhibition in Phenomena

A study of communality through playfulness and limitlessness.


Limitless Play is an exhibition of phenomenic, interactive art. The exhibition manifests in different forms and media, comprising various workshops, projects and ideas that were launched during the community art project A Study of Playfulness and Limitlessness. This study was part of a larger community art process Colours in February organised by the Community of the Living Fire (Elävän Tulen yhteisö) in the region of Pispala, Tampere. The exhibition of Limitless Play is held at the Centre of Contemporary Art Pispala, Hirvitalo through 26th May to 17th June 2012. 

Limitless Play is about exploring new forms of communal interaction by means of playfulness and creative interaction, by inviting the audience to participate in various events and phenomena. The goal of the exhibition is to create phenomena and artwork that could evolve both during and after the exhibition. During the exhibition, visitors can take part in Waterballoon Wars, stonetrading and performative conversations, among other events. In addition, they can vote for the content and continuation of the artwork, enagage in Guided Reality Tours, Hometown Hiking, Conversations in Gibberish and many other phenomena.

Events and phenomena
  • Opening reception. Saturday 26th May 2012 starting at 6pm at Hirvitalo. Welcome! 
  • The First Water Balloon War! Sunday 27th May at 4pm at Tahmela beach. 
  • Avautuva Ateljee – A Gallery opening. Tuesday 29th May from 6pm (Tahmelankatu 8 as 4). 
  • Newspace: Explorations in Conversations at Kahvilla. Thursday 31st May at 8pm. 
  • Conversations in Gibberish / Newspace. Friday 1st June 3–5pm at Hirvitalo. 
  • Newspace at Pax Näsinpuisto from 4pm near the main event.
  • A trip to Särkänniemi: "Are amusement parks really amusing?" – A study trip. Tuesday 5th June 12am–6pm. 
  • Pyhäjärvi-Art-Raft-Avant-Gardeners  6th–9th June from 4pm at Hirvitalo.
  • Ymmärrysviihdemaailma – The Opening Event. Thursday 7th June 6pm at Hirvikatu 20 A 7. Open additionally: Friday 8th, Thusday 14th Friday 15th June 6–9pm.
  • Hometown Hiking begins. Sunday 10th June.
